Barton’s ATEX silos support export growth at Brecks

26 October 2012 - 747 views

BRISTOL - Brecks Foods has installed two new Barton Fabrications ATEX compliant silos to support growth in its export market for rice and wheat flour products.

With a capacity of 60 tonnes each and standing 12 metres tall, the silos increase the number of storage vessels at the Company’s Selby site to five.

Commenting on the purchase of the Barton ATEX complaint silos, Brecks’ owner James Hirst said:

“We have seen a significant growth in the demand for our cereal products from export markets and needed to expand our rice and wheat flour storage capacity. I am keen to support British industry and Barton Fabrications, as the largest manufacturer of aluminium silos, has been able to support our expansion plans. Bartons made the specification and supply of the silos straightforward, especially in relation to the requirements for ATEX compliance. They also worked closely with the materials handling contractor to ensure that the installation and commissioning process went smoothly.”

For nearly ten years the food and other powder handing industries have needed to comply to Directive 99/92/EC (ATEX 137) and install / upgrade their silos to be ATEX compliant. Barton Fabrications’ food silos are all manufactured with explosion vents and heavy gauge walls to ensure full ATEX compliance.
