Case study: Mixer drum weighing solution

11 September 2012 - 957 views

BRILON - Dosing and batching of silica sand and glass powder into a stationary mixer drum. The customer is producing coloured silica sand for decoration.

The sand is stored in large outdoor silos and conveyed via screw conveyors and vibration feeders into the running mixing drum. The tare weight of the mixer is around 7000kg. The sand (300 - 3000kg) should be batched into the moving mixer with an accuracy better than 5kg.

Solution
The mixing drum and the drive are mounted on a common steel frame which is resting on 4 “Baby Safemount” load cells. The Baby Safemount loading assembly is consisting of a double shear beam which is very resistant against lateral forces. The assembly does not require additional rods or stay bars. The batching electronic provides an automatic course/fine flow control and a delay correction. The final batching accuracy is within +/- 1kg.

About Baby Safemount load cells for silos, tanks & hoppers
The unique design of the Baby - Safemount load cells offers safe, precise and simple weighing for silos, agitators and tanks.

The force guiding into the double shear beam guarantees high resistance against lateral forces and thermal expansion.

A totally stainless steel module is also available.

The “Baby Safemount” Load cell is very easy to install - the double shear beam load sensor can be exchanged without lifting tools. The built in rod- and stay bar security allows for some horizontal forces and thermal expansion of the vessel.

Baby Safemount load cells offer:

  • One size for capacities from 1000 kg to 7500 kg
  • No rods or stay bars required*
  • Vertical height only 95 mm
  • Stainless steel load cell IP 68 - module with nylon coating
  • Very economic
  • Explosion approval according to ATEX II 1 GD EEx ia IIC T6
  • ATEX approval for Zone 22 does not require safety barriers
  • Optional complete assembly in stainless steel

*Anti Lift off will be required when wind loading is a factor
