HAMBURG - The accurate measurement of moisture in large-sized packaged goods in the manufacturing industry is as important as problematic: The water content is a crucial quality characteristic of many raw materials and a relevant feature for pricing.
Here, the determination of the exact moisture content by random sampling and laboratory analyses is time-consuming and costly.
With the microwave transmission measuring device MW-T, TEWS Electronics has brought a measurement system to the market with which the precise measurement of the core moisture in bales and boxes is possible independent of the densityor thickness.
Microwave transmission method
The measuring method of the MW-T is based on the transmission of extremely weak microwaves. Two antennas can be connected to the MW-T, which are attached on either side of the substance to be measured.

Microwaves are emitted by the transmitting antenna, penetrate the measured object and are received by the receiving antenna. The electronic unit of the MW-T evaluates the recorded signal according to an innovative and patented method and calculates the moisture of the test material independent of its density and independent of its thickness.
High sampling rate
Due to the high sampling rate of 30 readings per second, the measurement of moisture and density profiles is possible. Such profiles allow on one hand the determination of mean moisture and density values and enable on the other hand the display of moisture and density distribution.
Fully automatic measurement of unit loads
By the use of light barriers and the possibility to feed in digital signals, measurements occur automatically on cargo. The measurement results can be stored, but also be transmitted to the process environment via a mA interface or be displayed with a label printer.
Insensitivity to interferences
The density-independent moisture content measurement with the MW-T is independent of the position of the test material within the test section. Neither the distance of the test material to the sensors nor a tilted material position affects the result. The measuring device is therefore particularly well suited for use in industrial environments.
Touch screen and / or PC to operate
The MW-T is equipped with a color touch screen. Thus the current measurement values can be viewed; all configuration parameters can be set directly on the instrument. Alternatively, the device can be controlled remotely via a LAN connection.
With the MW-T measuring system the determination of moisture content of packaged goods in both, the large-format incoming inspection and in process monitoring, are accelerated and simplified.
